Au pair experiences
Connecting au pairs, host families and agencies to create safer, stronger and more meaningful international experiences.
What is an au pair ?
An au pair is a young person who lives with a host family abroad and helps with childcare and light household tasks, in exchange for accommodation, meals, and pocket money (stipend).
Beyond childcare, being an au pair is a cultural exchange, a unique opportunity to :
- Improve your language skills
- Discover a new culture
- Gain international experience while becoming part of a family.

Requirements and expectations
Becoming an au pair comes with responsibilities.
Au pair requirements and conditions vary from country to country, but some expectations are common worldwide !
Most programs require au pairs to be between 18 and 26 years old (up to 30 years in some countries), unmarried, without children, and in good physical, mental health, having basic level of your host country's language.
Working hours, pocket money (stipend), and benefits depend on the host country and the program. Some destinations require a specific visa or to be registered with an official agency as the USA.
In almost all cases, families and agencies expect au pairs to have at least 200-300 hours of childcare experience before applying.
Benefits of being an au pair
Becoming an au pair is a unique opportunity to grow personally while discovering a new country.
