Au pairs

Daily life usually includes childcare during agreed hours, free time to study or explore, and living as part of the host family. The experience can vary depending on the country and family.

Host family

It is not acceptable to ask an au pair to work beyond legal hours, perform heavy cleaning, provide professional childcare beyond agreed responsibilities, or replace a full-time employee. An au pair is not a domestic worker but part of a cultural exchange program.
